At Spark Amsterdam, a remarkable architectural creation by Powerhouse Architects and realized by Rijksvastgoedbedrijf, we had the opportunity to contribute to its operational excellence.
The Challenge:
The previous system required sharing a single gondola between two roof cars, a practice more common in older systems but highly inefficient due to the time-consuming exchange process. Additionally, the existing rail tracks needed evaluation to determine compatibility with a modern BMU solution.
Another key factor was the age of the previous system, which was built in 1991. Despite still being operational, it was outdated compared to current industry standards.
Our Solution:
To modernise the façade access system without altering any of the building’s infrastructure, we replaced the current facade access system with our CoxGomyl E series BMU with its dedicated gondola system, eliminating the inefficiencies caused by sharing between two roof cars.
For the rail tracks, we ensured the new BMU fitted seamlessly onto the existing tracks without modifications. The existing rails conform to EN1808:2015 standards, so no changes were necessary. This approach minimised disruption and additional costs while maintaining compliance.
Through close collaboration between our engineers in the Netherlands and Spain, we successfully integrated the new system, ensuring efficiency, safety, and reliability.
